Skills
Skills are different from Attributes because you get a chance to develop them every level. This becomes very nice because as you progress through the game, you learn which skills are important and which are not as important. Which are and which aren't may of course vary from character to character depending on your style of gameplay.
One of the most important skills to develop is Small Guns. It is an essential combat skill and is very useful for a large portion of the game. Others such as First Aid and Gambling are not so important. Energy Weapons are important later in the game and it may be worthwhile to develop them early.
The two tagged skills are very important since you can advance twice as fast in a tagged skill. Eventually, when you reach Level 12, you can pick Tag! as a perk. This will allow you to tag a third skill and is highly recommended if you don't think your character is up to the challenge by then.
