Fallout 2 Hints
Fix the mine's air purifier.
1 of 7: Zaius, the mine foreman, will offer this job to you. (You might also have to get Marcus, the Sheriff, to tell you about it first.)
2 of 7: He wants you to go to New Reno and pick up an air purifier for the town's mine.
3 of 7: You're supposed to buy the part from Renesco, who's on the west ("Commercial Row") side of town.
4 of 7: You'll need to give him the code phrase that Zaius gave you to get the part.
5 of 7: Then, "all" you have to do is head into the mine and use the part on the broken equipment to finish the job.
6 of 7: Be warned that the fumes from the mine will cause some damage if you don't have some kind of air filter. I recommend leaving your party outside the mine and taking care of this job on your own if you don't.
7 of 7: I've been told that power armor (which you'll find late in the game) will provide you protection against the fumes, but I did not confirm this myself. I was also unable to find any other filters, but the damage was minor enough that, running through the mine, I only needed a stimpack or two.
