Big Combat Tips

  • 1 of 7: The first thing to do is go around to all four drone pods that you've found so far (two in this room and two in the big hangar bay) and activate a guardian drone (if you can).
  • 2 of 7: You might want to destroy the other guardian drone so you can search it and take a powerful drone cannon for your own use. Drone cannons shoot out big energy grenades that bounce before detonating, and are great for firing at groups of enemies in narrow corridors and such.
  • 3 of 7: There are two ways into the room with the force-fielded doorway, and you'll probably want to set widely spaced strings of mines down each passage. Also, set a few mines on the floor near the force-fielded doorway.
  • 4 of 7: That's all just to catch the stragglers. Your best weapon during the battle will be the five pylon control buttons on the balcony. Station yourself there and hit a pylon control button when there are aliens near either of the two pylons that it controls. Or just keep hitting all five buttons in a row over and over -- the pylons recharge very quickly.
  • 5 of 7: When Paulson says they're coming from the generator room, turn around and quickly blast any of them that survive your mines (though hopefully none will).
  • 6 of 7: Don't abandon the pylon controls! Start using them again as soon as you can without getting shot in the back.
  • 7 of 7: Stay at the controls until no more aliens appear anywhere, then start going around and looting their corpses (especially the drones) and picking up any unexploded mines. If there are any stragglers, you'll find them during that process.
