Fallout 3 Hints
Water Pipe Repairs
of 14: Go to Megaton (location 3 on the Zone 8 Map) and find Walter, who works in the water processing plant in the NW part of town during the day.
of 14: Ask him how you can help, then ask about the leaks.
of 14: Volunteer to fix them, then go find and repair all three leaks. (NOTE: If your Repair skill is less than 30, wait until you get it up to 30 or higher.)
of 14: You can spot the leaks fairly easily by looking for water spewing out of a pipe.
of 14: One leak is near the Brass Lantern building that's in the center of town, on a pipe a little way up the steep sloping path that leads to the town exit.
of 14: To fix the leak, activate the pipe joint that's next to it and attempt to repair it.
of 14: Another leak is in a pipe on the right side of the path that goes up to the Common House in the SE corner of town. Repair it the same way you did the first one.
of 14: The third and final leak is in a pipe that goes across the roof of the Children of the Atom church building.
of 14: To get to it, jump over the railing that's just SE of the door to the Craterside Supply store on the west side of town.
of 14: This one doesn't have a pipe joint, so just activate the leaky pipe and choose to attempt a repair.
of 14: After you get all three leaks fixed, report back to Walter to get 200 caps and some XP.
of 14: Tell him that you'll help find scrap metal for his repair work, and you'll be able to sell him scrap metal from then on.
of 14: You can get 10 caps per piece of scrap metal, or give it to Walter for free to get a karma boost.
of 14: Either way, you'll also get a few XP for each piece you turn in, so it's definitely worthwhile to grab up all the scrap metal you can find and save it for Walter.
