Fallout 3 Hints

Custom Weapons

  • 1 of 7: There are seven different special weapons that you can create at any work bench once you have the right parts and at least one schematic for that weapon.
  • 2 of 7: Below is a list of all seven weapons and what component parts are needed for each.
  • 3 of 7: This next list puts all of the components (except bottle caps) in alphabetical order for quick reference. Whenever you're looting an area and wonder which junky items to save for custom weapon-making, check this list. Or make your own list which only includes components for the custom weapons you want to make.
  • 4 of 7: If you're ever itching to make a particular weapon, but don't have all of the components necessary, check the list below to find out which areas have the highest concentrations of those components. (Note that the list doesn't include bottle caps, Nuka-Cola Quantums, or any items you can only get by killing specific creatures.)
  • 5 of 7: After taking the Early Development Strategy's advice of getting a home in Megaton, you can store components in your home's containers until you're ready to use them. Also, you can buy a work bench for your home so you can make custom weapons there, or you can just use the work bench in the Craterside Supply store. If you're out and about when you need a work bench, check the list below to find the one nearest you.
  • 6 of 7: As for the weapon schematics, there are three or four for each weapon, and you should collect at least three of them whenever possible. The more schematics you have for a weapon (up to three), the better the condition of the weapon when you create it, or the more you get of it in the case of explosives. A higher Repair skill also helps with weapon condition.
  • 7 of 7: NOTE: If you have the Broken Steel add-on game installed, there'll be a new perk called Warmonger that you can take to allow you to make top-quality versions of all custom weapons no matter how many schematics you've picked up. The catch is that you'll have to wait until you're level 26, and you'll have to use a perk slot.
