1 of 3: One shortcut is to finish "Following in His Footsteps" by persuading Three Dog to tell you where your father went right away.
2 of 3: A bigger shortcut is to go straight to Rivet City and talk to Doctor Li in the science lab, which is something you can do at any time after exiting Vault 101.
3 of 3: The biggest shortcut of all is to go straight to Smith Casey's Garage, which lets you skip ahead to the "Gain access to Vault 112" objective.
