What's the best way to handle this situation?
1 of 8: Tell Butch that you'll help, then quickly follow him to the door to his quarters.
2 of 8: Run through the door and turn right to find a closed door that you can open.
3 of 8: Past that door, get out a weapon and quickly kill the three radroaches that are attacking Butch's mother.
4 of 8: I've found it effective to just punch them to death, but you have to be careful not to hit Butch's mother.
5 of 8: If you save her, talk to Butch to get his Tunnel Snake outfit, which gives a Melee Weapons +5 bonus when worn (but isn't nearly as protective as security armor).
6 of 8: If Butch's mother dies because you didn't kill the radroaches in time, you could restore a save and try again, or you could loot her and then sneak-attack Butch and loot him. (Though note that you'll lose some karma for killing Butch, along with the possibility of him becoming a follower later in the game.)
7 of 8: When you're talking to Butch, you could give him a weapon so he'll be brave enough to go in there and start attacking the radroaches, but a better way is to pass the Speech Challenge option to get him to go in there and attack the roaches without a weapon. (You could quicksave right before meeting Butch, and then keep trying that Speech Challenge until you succeed.)
8 of 8: After it's over one way or another, loot the radroaches and search near the bed to find three vodka bottles. They can be imbibed for a temporary +1 to Charisma and Strength and a temporary -1 to Intelligence. You can also pick up some cheap items, including some jumpsuits from a dresser, but you probably shouldn't bother.
