Fallout 3 Hints

Find the Washington Monument.

  • 1 of 11: Go back the way you came to return to the west wing's starting balcony area, then go through the door that leads back to the atrium.
  • 2 of 11: Hop over the walkway railing to drop back down to the floor so you don't have to go back through the vault tour area.
  • 3 of 11: When you exit the museum, immediately turn left and run back for the stairs that lead down to the Metro Station gate you entered the Mall region through earlier.
  • 4 of 11: Use it as cover to shoot down any nearby super mutants. Ideally, they'll charge you, and you can use V.A.T.S. to deliver some devastating up-close attacks when they move into view.
  • 5 of 11: When you're ready to go, run up the stairs and turn right, then run forward to the building wall. Turn right again and run for the narrow passage that's between the buildings and a tall rubble pile.
  • 6 of 11: Past the rubble pile, hug the buildings on the left as you make your way down to the Washington Monument.
  • 7 of 11: When you're about even with the monument, turn right and go over to the barricade that surrounds the monument.
  • 8 of 11: Turn right and go along the barricade until you reach the Brotherhood of Steel outpost at the barricade's door.
  • 9 of 11: Open the door by using the "Secuity" (sic) terminal to the right of it and clicking on "Open Outer Security Gate."
  • 10 of 11: Go through the open door and past a radio to find the door that leads into the monument.
  • 11 of 11: TIP: Before you go through that door, jump through the window to the left of it and run around the monument's perimeter until you find a weapon stash that includes a missile launcher, three loose missiles, and an ammo box with at least one more missile in it. After you get all that, go back and jump through the same window to return to the monument door.
