The Feeble Files Hints
How do I use the card encoder?
of 18: The top line asks for the card identifier, which is the number you want it to be.
of 18: And you want it to open the Junk Ship.
of 18: So enter the number above the door of the junk ship.
of 18: The bottom line asks for the stardate.
of 18: If you look in Oracle for the stardate, you find out that it is the date in code. You can also find out about the measurement of time here. The period is the equivalent of the year, and the cycle is sort of the date.
of 18: You can get many clues about the stardate from the exhibits in the zoo.
of 18: The biggest clue is given in the Filber's exhibit. It tells you that the starbase was established a quarter millennium after the 250th period in the sixth millennium, so the period should have been 6500.
of 18: It also tells you this stardate was 0102536. Notice a link?
of 18: The period is shown backwards in the odd digits.
of 18: The first exhibit tells you that the hybrids were introduced 200 cycles after New Period's cycle, which should set the cycle as the 201st.
of 18: The stardate at that time was 1240912.
of 18: The cycle is shown forward as the even digits. So if the cycle was abc and the period was 1234, the stardate would be 4-a-3-b-2-c-1.
of 18: If you read the newspaper, you can work out the cycle from the various dates given.
of 18: And the period must be some time after Feeble's birth period (found in Oracle under S.O.B).
of 18: How old would you guess he was? I'd say about 25.
of 18: This is quite a difficult puzzle, so I'll tell you the stardate. It is the 107th cycle of the 8732nd period.
of 18: This puts the stardate at 2130778. The number of the Junkship is 7829353.
of 18: N.B.: I think you have to find the period by trial and error, because I couldn't find any other way to do it, but if anyone finds out please drop me a line (see author).
