Gabriel Knight 3: Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the Damned Hints

What is the solution to the Ophiuchus riddle?

  • 1 of 16: Unlike most of the riddles, this has nothing to do with the map.
  • 2 of 16: Notice that the riddle mentions "Et in Arcadia Ego _ _ _".
  • 3 of 16: That phrase is the real key to the riddle.
  • 4 of 16: Before you can figure out what that means, you need to scan the phrase into SIDNEY.
  • 5 of 16: If you haven't found out how to do so yet, you will need to find a copy of Poussin's painting and analyze it.
  • 6 of 16: SIDNEY will save the incomplete phrase as a separate file.  Open and analyze it.
  • 7 of 16: Translate it from Latin, and SIDNEY will give you an opportunity to complete it.
  • 8 of 16: You may remember that SIDNEY also suggested that there was an anagram in the phrase.  You should select the "anagram parser" from SIDNEY's menu now that you've completed the phrase.  (You may need to go back to the main menu first to get out of translation mode.)
  • 9 of 16: SIDNEY will suggest a lot of Latin words, but if you try to find meaningful ones, you can narrow the list down significantly.
  • 10 of 16: Pay attention to what's going on in the painting.
  • 11 of 16: It's a painting of a tomb.
  • 12 of 16: So select "Arcam (Tomb)."
  • 13 of 16: And someone's touching the tomb.
  • 14 of 16: Pick "Tango (I touch)."
  • 15 of 16: Finally, pick "Dei (God)."
  • 16 of 16: The parser will fill in the missing word -- "Iesu," which is Greek for "Jesus."  You have now solved this riddle.
