1 of 5: There are a few things you need to talk to people about while you're here.
2 of 5: And you will need to do some eavesdropping to learn a key topic.
3 of 5: Start by walking near Lady Howard and Estelle to hear them talk about Le Serpent Rouge. (Listen in to Madeline and Wilkes first if you want to find all the optional actions.)
4 of 5: Then, talk to all of the characters here until Madeline tells you it's time to go.
5 of 5: The important ones to talk to seem to be Madeline, Lady Howard and Estelle, Emilio, and Mosely. You do not need to talk to Wilkes, Buchelli, or the Abbe, but if you do want to talk to them, talk to them first -- before Madeline forces you to the next location.
