Gothic 3 Hints

Cave Notes

  • 1 of 30: There's an extensive set of caves beneath Cape Dun which can be explored for lots of combat and loot.
  • 2 of 30: To find one entrance to the caves, enter Cape Dun through its NE exit, then find the path that starts behind the house on the left.
  • 3 of 30: It leads all the way down to the beach, but before you get there, you'll find the first entrance to the cave on your right.
  • 4 of 30: To get to the second entrance, go to the beach and turn right (west), then keep going until you can turn north.
  • 5 of 30: The lurkers on the beach make it much harder to get to the second cave entrance, so you'll probably want to put it off for now and start with the cave entrance that's along the sloping path.
  • 6 of 30: When you encounter creatures too tough for you to fight, you can lure them back along the path that leads up to Cape Dun, hitting them with arrows and/or spells as you go.
  • 7 of 30: If you reach the top of the path without being able to kill the creature, the orcs will run to help you.
  • 8 of 30: Another possibility is to get up in a steep little side area in the cave and shoot creatures from there.
  • 9 of 30: The side area is just a little ways past the first cave entrance, right near where several barrels are setting next to a big stack of boards.
  • 10 of 30: You can jump up into that side area and move back a ways, and the creature you led there won't be able to reach you.
  • 11 of 30: That's a great way to clear out the minecrawlers and ogres you'll meet in the upper part of the cave complex.
  • 12 of 30: As for the lower part, that's what connects to the second cave entrance, and it's a lot tougher. There are even two dragons down in the bottom section!
  • 13 of 30: To start with, use the lead-them-back-along-the-path routine to kill off the lurkers that are lurking on the beach and next to the cave's second entrance.
  • 14 of 30: TIP: From several different spots in the upper caves area, you can shoot down at the goblins on the cave floor far below. This causes them to run around in that area, and sometimes the lurkers near the second cave entrance will see them and attack.
  • 15 of 30: After you finish off the lurkers down there one way or another, go around to the second cave entrance and kill off all the remaining goblins.
  • 16 of 30: There are several ogres and minecrawlers near the goblin camp, but once again, there's a spot nearby from which you can shoot them safely.
  • 17 of 30: In the goblin area, find the campfire that has two bundles of weapons lying near it. Look to the right of it to see several sacks lying in a pile nearby.
  • 18 of 30: Run up the path just to the left of those sacks to reach the ledge that works as a safe area.
  • 19 of 30: Your going up there should've alerted the two nearby minecrawlers, so maneuver around on your safe ledge to get to where you can shoot them to death.
  • 20 of 30: As for the ogres, they're down a nearby cave tunnel. You should be able to see them and shoot them from your ledge to bring them out into the open.
  • 21 of 30: Once they're all down, raid the ogres' cave and the minecrawlers' side tunnel, then get ready to take on those pesky dragons.
  • 22 of 30: To get to their lair, find the down-sloping bridge that starts near the goblin campfire that has the bundles of weapons next to it.
  • 23 of 30: Go down the first sloping bridge, and then go most of the way down the second one.
  • 24 of 30: Take up position near the bottom of the second bridge and start shooting the dragon that you can see over to the right as you look back up the way you came.
  • 25 of 30: Hopefully, he'll just stand there and take it. If he starts breathing fire at you, quickly strafe left to get some cover.
  • 26 of 30: After the first dragon is dead, go down the third ramp bridge (the really short one) to get to the cave floor.
  • 27 of 30: If you turn and look to the left from the bottom of the third bridge, you'll see two large "pillars" of stone off that way. The second dragon is probably hiding behind the second pillar.
  • 28 of 30: Move to where you can shoot him once to get him to come out, then quickly run up the short ramp bridge and stand at the base of the second long one.
  • 29 of 30: You should be able to shoot the second dragon to death from there safely. (Note that if you draw him in too close, you'll constantly have to strafe left to dodge fireballs.)
  • 30 of 30: Once both dragons are dead, you're free to raid their treasure!
