There are also bookshelves and stone tablets that can increase your Ancient Knowledge the first time you use them. The increase is always +5 except with weathered stone tablets, which give +10. In the case of merchants who sell stone tablets, how many they have in inventory is randomly chosen when you first talk to them. You should quicksave before doing so, then keep quickrestoring and checking their inventories until you can get at least one stone tablet. (And before you settle for one, you should see if they can have two or even three -- some can.)
