Half-Life Hints
How can I fight the soldiers?
of 11: These soldiers are smarter than anything you have met yet. They will scramble for cover when you shoot at them, use cover to their advantage, work in squads to systematically attack you, patrol areas looking for you, toss grenades when you are hiding behind something, and so on. Be prepared for some interesting fights.
of 11: To begin with, they do not always see you or know you are coming. Hence, a soldier with his back turned is an easy kill.
of 11: Keep in mind that when you open fire, all of the soldiers will respond, not just the one you are targeting.
of 11: The soldiers usually work in squad formation as long as their squad leader is alive. He is the soldier wearing a red beret. Take him out and the remaining soldiers may be a little less organized. You usually will not notice too much of a difference, but every little bit helps.
of 11: Some soldiers may know you are coming, so you have to be prepared for all sorts of situations.
of 11: If you hear radio chatter, you know that there are soldiers nearby.
of 11: If you hear someone say "I hear something," they know you are near and may begin patrolling their perimeter.
of 11: If you begin to hear squad commands being shouted out, chances are they have found you and are beginning to move in and start a firefight.
of 11: If you hear them yell grenade-firing dialogue ("Fire in the hole!", "Squad, stay down!", or "Take this!") or you hear a grenade hit the floor, move quickly. You do not want them tossing grenades at you, since a grenade will do more damage than any other weapons they carry (excluding the grenade launcher on the Mp5).
of 11: You will want to get as close as possible if you are going to take them out using standard weapons. They will start firing the instant they see you, so use your cover to hide.
of 11: Once they are on to you, move out into the open and strafe from cover to cover while firing one of your more powerful weapons (Mp5 is ideal). Take out the ones that are firing at you. If one leaves the fight to reload his weapon, it might be worth going after him while his weapon is unusable.
