How can I get past the tentacles?
1 of 9: First and foremost, you should try clearing the path you wish to take.
2 of 9: That is, if there are some boxes on the next level down, you should try to destroy them before you make a run for it. That way you can run and not be interrupted.
3 of 9: Use some hand grenades. There are several you can resupply with on some nearby explosive crates.
4 of 9: To prevent the tentacles from hearing you as you move about their area, you either need to be really quiet or you need to distract them.
5 of 9: To be really quiet, you might want to crouch and walk (not run, which is the default) to maximize stealth. Most times they will not hear you. But if you fall, run, fire a shot, or start breaking things, they will start attacking. (They also often hear you going up and down ladders.)
6 of 9: Notice that there are quite a few grenades near the entrance to the actual Blast Pit.
7 of 9: Perhaps they will produce enough noise to adequately distract the tentacles.
8 of 9: Toss a grenade in the opposite direction from you and run once it explodes. You will only have a second or two before the tentacles figure out that nothing is at the source of the sound. Be prepared to stop quickly and repeat this process.
9 of 9: Perhaps the best place to stop is on a ladder. Be just below the ceiling of the level above you, and you should be able to avoid any of the tentacles' stabs even when making noise.
