Half-Life Hints
How do I get out of the fan room?
of 13: You need to find a way out of this room. It is worthless to retrace your tracks.
of 13: Some ladders lead downward, but they only go so far and there is nothing but darkness below them.
of 13: Perhaps there is a way out above you.
of 13: Look up at the makeshift ceiling made of wooden planks.
of 13: Maybe if you had a way up there, you could break through the planks and find a way out.
of 13: Hmm. A way up there?
of 13: Well, the fan looks powerful enough to propel you upwards. If only you could get it started.
of 13: But wait! If you follow the ladders all of the way down, you will come to a button that will activate the fan.
of 13: So get it started.
of 13: Once the fan starts up, carefully climb the ladders back up.
of 13: You should always save your game right before hitting the fan-starting button. You sometimes get knocked down and killed even if you rush up the ladder as fast as you can after starting the fan. Just keep restoring and trying again until you make it.
of 13: Wait until you are sure that the fan is at full strength. Jump out into the open space above it and you will be pushed upwards. (Do NOT try and jump up through the blades from below the fan. Trust me, it doesn't work.)
of 13: Break through the boards and you will be presented with a nice little vent that leads into an air shaft.
