How should I attack the soldiers' headquarters?

  • 1 of 15: As you come around the corner of a hallway, you will see some explosive boxes.
  • 2 of 15: Destroy them, since you will be standing right there in a minute and you do not want them to explode while you are trying to overtake the enemy headquarters.
  • 3 of 15: Once that is done, edge around the corner that opens into the main room.
  • 4 of 15: You will see some more explosive boxes behind a bunker. Hmm, come to think of it, the soldiers are probably standing right next to them.
  • 5 of 15: Take a few shots at the explosive boxes to detonate them. Any enemy soldiers behind the bunker should be destroyed.
  • 6 of 15: Now, move out into the open. If any soldiers pop out from either side or from the main entrance to the headquarters, take care of them.
  • 7 of 15: Move up to the main entrance. Be prepared in case any soldiers go running by. Take them out.
  • 8 of 15: My favorite way to do things is to have a tripmine ready, strafe out into the hallway and then strafe back. This way, all of the soldiers see you and the ceiling gives way, dropping a few headcrabs into the hallway.
  • 9 of 15: Quickly set the trigger grenade on the entrance way and run down the ramps and out of harm's way.
  • 10 of 15: If all goes well, a soldier will chase you and run through the trigger-grenade's laser-beam, detonating it. If you get lucky, a few soldiers and some headcrabs may get taken out by the explosion. Otherwise, the headcrabs will go to work on the lingering soldiers.
  • 11 of 15: Move back up and into the hallway and take care of whatever is left.
  • 12 of 15: A few soldiers may remain in some of the more remote areas of the base. They are easy targets, since you will have an easier time tossing grenades around corners and they are not working in numbers.
  • 13 of 15: Be sure to clear the entire enemy base before taking the elevator down.
  • 14 of 15: Another neat thing to do is shoot one of the computers in a side room. It'll explode and then fire out a constant stream of fire. You can jump over it, but any soldiers chasing you will be killed by it. It's like a permanent tripmine!
  • 15 of 15: Also, it's possible to sneak-shoot most soldiers before they see you. Ready the .357 Magnum and edge over to a spot where you can just barely see a soldier's boot or backpack, and carefully shoot it. He may or may not charge you, but in any case, you got that one free shot in, which will help when finishing him off.
