Half-Life Hints
How do I get off the elevator that leads down to the power generator?
of 8: You will notice that the elevator drops you down into a collection of tripmines that are all carefully organized to keep you from moving off of the elevator.
of 8: There are also some curious houndeyes that threaten to trigger the mines as well.
of 8: You will want to take care of these houndeyes first, since you really cannot control what they do.
of 8: Shoot them out before they start running up to you. There is usually only one houndeye, but occasionally you will get an extra one.
of 8: Be careful not to shoot through the lasers, hit the tripmines themselves, or allow a houndeye to get a sonic shock off. Otherwise, the tripmines will detonate, killing everything nearby.
of 8: Once the houndeyes are taken care of, you will see that if you walk to the side of the elevator, you can drop off into the water below after the elevator goes back up. Do so.
of 8: Run along and up the nearby ladder to circumvent the tripmines. Leave the mines intact as you may want to use them to your advantage later.
of 8: Another way to handle this is to lower the lift and toss a hand grenade down without going down yourself. Then, once you're down, set up a tripmine or two of your own for when the soldiers come down later on.
