Half-Life 2: Episode One Hints

Hallway Combat Tips

  • 1 of 12: Take cover near the doorway to that hall until the soldiers can finish off the zombies.
  • 2 of 12: It's best to hide to the right of the doorway to make sure that the gunship hovering around outside can't shoot you through the window.
  • 3 of 12: When the area past the doorway is clear of zombies, start ducking in and out of cover to shoot the soldiers who are farther down the hall. (I recommend using the pulse rifle.)
  • 4 of 12: When they're down, check the locker that's on the left just past the doorway for supplies. (Remember to open its closed doors to find more.)
  • 5 of 12: Quicksave and move down the hall, sticking to its right wall whenever there are windows that the gunship could shoot you through.
  • 6 of 12: NOTE: If you enter this chapter section with an RPG with some rockets left in it, don't shoot the gunship through the windows before you enter the rickety wooden building that's past this hall. It'll hover nearby, offering a very tempting target, but it'll be invincible.
  • 7 of 12: When you reach a doorway leading to a section with several dormant zombies in it, pop each of them with the pistol to get them up so Alyx and the gunship will help shoot them down.
  • 8 of 12: After they're down, move into their area, sticking to the right wall again.
  • 9 of 12: As soon as soldiers appear in the next area (past two tripmines if they haven't already been exploded), run forward along the right wall and take cover in the corner next to the tripmined doorway.
  • 10 of 12: Quickly strafe left to get soldiers into view for shooting, and then right again to take cover before you're shot.
  • 11 of 12: To take out the tripmines, stand away from them and use the gravity gun to throw an item through their red beams.
  • 12 of 12: Now the entire hallway is finally clear (except for sporadic gunship fire), so make your way down to the end of it.
