Half-Life 2: Episode One Hints
Gunship Combat Tips
of 13: After raiding the supply crates at the end of the newly cleared hall, go up some stairs to find yourself in a large and very rickety wooden building.
of 13: NOTE: At least the weak floor sections here won't break under your weight, though they can very easily be shot out by you or the gunship.
of 13: Run across the floor to find an infinite ammo crate for rockets near the back.
of 13: Of course, that doesn't do you any good if you haven't gotten an RPG yet.
of 13: Once you have your RPG and it's full of rockets, leave the rickety wooden area and head back for the hallway where the gunship was shooting in through the windows.
of 13: You're now going to be shooting *out* through those same windows, hitting the gunship with one rocket after another and taking cover between rocket hits.
of 13: It can be a real pain to do, since the gunship isn't hovering right by the windows like it was before.
of 13: Also, it's far too easy to hit the window frame and blow yourself up. To help avoid this, be standing on the side of the hall opposite the windows when you fire your rockets. (And then take cover by running over to the windows and crouching.)
of 13: If it's too hard to hit the gunship through the windows, go back to the big wooden building's lowest floor.
of 13: You may have to blow off some flooring or ceiling above to get a good shot at the gunship as it flies by, and that will only reduce the cover you have.
of 13: I always found the window strategy to work a bit better, even though it can be very tedious and time-consuming.
of 13: It's important to quicksave after every rocket hit and quickrestore after every miss to make the most of the three rockets you've got.
of 13: If you're not playing on Easy difficulty, three rockets won't be enough, and you'll have to make a quick run to the infinite rocket crate to restock. That can get harder and harder as the floorboards are shot out by the gunship.
