Half-Life 2: Episode One Hints
How can I get across here?
of 14: You need to get the energy bridge that's right in front of you fully operational.
of 14: Notice that the light on the right side is green, but the one on the left side is red.
of 14: What might be wrong with the left side that you could fix to get it working?
of 14: Since there are no controls or anything right next to the red and green lights, look farther out.
of 14: Looking across the room, you should see two large machines imbedded in walls a bit lower down than you are.
of 14: Those machines also have red and green lights on them, and they're connected to the nearby red and green light gadgets via wire.
of 14: Compare the two large machines -- what's missing from the one with the red light?
of 14: The green-light one has a glowing power source in its center, and the red-light one doesn't.
of 14: Looking around (and listening), how do you think you might power up the red-light machine?
of 14: How about with one of those bouncy energy orbs?
of 14: In case you haven't played the original Half-Life 2 all the way through, you should know that your souped-up gravity gun is now capable of pulling in energy orbs and firing them off. That's usually used to disintegrate enemies and debris, but there are other uses.
of 14: It's easiest to grab an energy orb from the conduit that's going across the room a ways lower, though you can grab one of the wildly bouncing ones if you keep trying.
of 14: Once you have an energy orb held by the gravity gun, aim at the center of the red-light machine and fire the orb with the primary fire trigger. (The secondary fire trigger sends the orb off at a sharp angle, which isn't helpful.)
of 14: Keep firing enerby orbs at the red-light machine until it becomes a green-light machine, thereby enabling the energy bridge.
