Half-Life 2: Episode One Hints
Soldier Combat Tips
of 10: Now it's time to use another interesting feature of the souped-up gravity gun.
of 10: It can zap organic beings (such as soldiers), and it can pull them in (which also kills them).
of 10: When you reach the other end of the bridge, turn right to find a soldier hiding behind the large central machine.
of 10: Most of the other soldiers will be coming in through two force fields on the other side of the area, so you can stay on that side of the machine and use it for cover.
of 10: But be sure to watch for grenades, and for soldiers charging your position. Both of those things are easily disposed of with the gravity gun.
of 10: If you keep peeking around the central machine both left and right, you should be able to finish off the soldiers (with Alyx's help, of course) with little damage to yourself.
of 10: After the ones who come through the force fields are all dead, a large overhead bridge in the next big area will explode in the middle, and one last soldier will appear on its right-side piece.
of 10: To kill him quickly, stand near the edge of the platform you're on and suck him in with the gravity gun's secondary fire mode.
of 10: A completely different strategy involves backing up on the bridge until you can easily grab energy orbs from the conduit below, then fire them at the soldiers as they appear near the other end of the bridge and in the area to the left of you. This requires pretty good aim with the orbs, and you will be fired on from two sides. However, Alyx should be able to make up for it.
of 10: After it's all over, go back across the bridge and use the Combine recharger to heal up.
