Half-Life 2: Episode One Hints

Hopper Hazard

  • 1 of 10: There's a hopper set on the ledge near the second half-height wall.
  • 2 of 10: You could run for that wall and try to catch the hopper after it jumps and before it explodes.
  • 3 of 10: But it's easier to grab it from a safe distance ahead of time.
  • 4 of 10: While crouching, edge slowly past your current wall until you're close enough to nab the hopper.
  • 5 of 10: Then throw it at the soldier who appears on a ledge above and a bit ahead (if you haven't shot him already) or reset it.
  • 6 of 10: Now run around the corner and crouch behind the first of the two "walls" made of two sheets of metal.
  • 7 of 10: WARNING: The strider probably can't knock the metal sheets off, but it can sometimes get a shot in through the gap between sheets. Crouch to keep from being hit by this.
  • 8 of 10: There are two more hoppers ahead to deal with.
  • 9 of 10: The nearest one can easily be picked up and thrown away while staying behind the first metal-sheet wall for cover.
  • 10 of 10: You'll have to quickly move forward to the second metal-sheet wall in order to be able to pick up the second hopper.
