The Orange Box: Half-Life 2: Episode Two Hints
Exact Strider Attack Pattern
of 22: Below is exact information on where and when each strider appears, how many hunters it'll have escorting it, and what route it'll follow in getting from its starting point to the White Forest base. Reference the Valley Map frequently to help you see how things are laid out.
of 22: NOTE: The exact route striders take to the base may sometimes vary randomly, but not usually. I'll mention any route variations that I noticed during my extensive playtesting of this attack.
of 22: Strider #1 appears at point A on the map, and it has one hunter escorting it. I'll follow Route A-1.
of 22: Strider #2 appears at point B as soon as the first strider goes down, and has one hunter escorting it.
of 22: It quickly gets into position to blast the sawmill and destroy its sticky bomb dispenser port, then follows either Route B-1 or Route B-2.
of 22: After it's down, the announcer guy will say something about the striders and hunters working in packs.
of 22: After a brief respite, Strider #3 will appear at point C with a two-hunter escort, and will follow Route C-1.
of 22: When it nears supply building #3, Strider #4 will appear at point A with a two-hunter escort and will probably follow Route A-2 (though it might instead go down Route A-1).
of 22: Right after it dies, the announcer will say there's only a few striders left.
of 22: Soon after that, Strider #5 will appear at point B with three hunters. It'll randomly choose to follow either Route B-1 or Route B-2.
of 22: However, before it can even reach the remains of the sawmill, Strider #6 will appear at the water tower!
of 22: Thankfully, it won't have any hunters with it, and it'll just slowly follow Route C-1.
of 22: Soon after you destroy either one of those striders, Strider #7 will appear at point A with a three-hunter escort.
of 22: It'll quickly make its way to supply building #4 and blow it and its sticky bomb dispenser port to smithereens. After that, it'll follow Route A-2.
of 22: After a short pause, Strider #8 will appear at point C along with two hunters.
of 22: It'll quickly make its way to supply building #3, which it'll destroy with a warp cannon blast. After that, it'll finish following Route C-1.
of 22: After you destroy it, the announcer will say that was the last one, but then he'll notice that dropships are coming in with more.
of 22: Strider #9 is the first strider to be dropped, and it'll appear at point A with two hunters.
of 22: Strider #10 will appear with no hunters at point B right after, and Strider #11 will come in from point C with two hunters right after that.
of 22: Just a minute or so after Strider #11 appears, the last two striders will be dropped, whether you've destroyed any of the first three or not.
of 22: Strider #12 will appear at point B, and Strider #13 will appear at point A. They'll each have one hunter with them.
of 22: As for routes, Strider #9 follows either Route A-1 or Route A-2, Strider #10 may follow Route B-1 or Route B-2, Strider #11 will follow Route C-2, Strider #12 will be like #10, and Strider #13 will be like #9.
