The Orange Box: Half-Life 2: Episode Two Hints

Strategy for No Preparation

  • 1 of 9: Do your best to stay under cover and shoot the hunters with the .357 and damage them with grenades.
  • 2 of 9: The best cover, especially at first, is the corner next to the little lift. Stay there and peek out long enough to shoot hunters through the doors without getting hit.
  • 3 of 9: They'll eventually come into the room with you, so try to kill at least the first two before that happens.
  • 4 of 9: When a hunter does come in, use up-close double-barrel shotgun blasts to damage it quickly.
  • 5 of 9: It's best to leave the room to get more maneuvering space after you kill the first two hunters.
  • 6 of 9: After you kill the first three hunters, leave the building through its now-open front doors or gate to find that there are two more hunters outside.
  • 7 of 9: At least you'll have more maneuvering room, and can temporarily duck them by running through the smaller buildings.
  • 8 of 9: I found it effective to run through and around the smallest building while using the .357 and shotgun (and Alyx as a shield), but you may prefer something else, like ramming them with the muscle car.
  • 9 of 9: Or you can use the big tires inside the building area to set up a kill-them-in-the-doorway routine that's similar to the one I describe in the Strategy for Extensive Preparation tips. If you do it right, it can end up being the least damaging *and* the least ammo-consumptive way to kill these two hunters.
