The Orange Box: Half-Life 2: Episode Two Hints

General Hunter Combat Tips

  • 1 of 9: Hunters can attack you by charging and ramming you or by firing little darts at you.
  • 2 of 9: The darts will do you considerable damage if they hit you. Those that miss you will stick into whatever they hit, and will explode a few seconds later.
  • 3 of 9: So it's not enough to dodge the darts as they're fired at you -- you also have to dodge away from where they stick before they explode.
  • 4 of 9: There is a way to use a hunter's explosive darts against him, though it's rather dangerous and error-prone.
  • 5 of 9: Hold a large non-explosive object (like a barrel or filing cabinet) up with the gravity gun so a hunter will shoot his darts into the object, then throw the object at him so the darts will hurt him instead of you when they explode.
  • 6 of 9: It's usually better to just grav-throw large items at hunters without trying to catch their darts on the items first.
  • 7 of 9: It's also very effective to throw explosive barrels and canisters at hunters, or to shoot such explosives when the hunters are close to them.
  • 8 of 9: When gravity gun ammo is in short supply, the .357 and pulse rifle are good for long-range hunter-shooting, while the shotgun is good for closer-up blasting.
  • 9 of 9: Also, look for opportunities to ram hunters with the muscle car.  That can be hard to do without taking a lot of fire, so you might want to save first and then keep trying it until you can do it efficiently.
