This beauty is every bit as much a stealthy assassin's weapon as any sniper rifle ever made. It has a great little zoom-scope you can toggle by pressing the Secondary Fire key, and you can actually fire a bolt while zoomed (unlike if you use your HEV suit's zoom feature). That makes for lots of great sneak-shooting opportunities. Add to that the fact that each bolt does a *huge* amount of damage, and you've got one of the best weapons ever made! (The only sad thing is that its ammo reserve has been greatly reduced from what it was in the original Half-Life.)
NOTE: Bolts move very slowly in comparison with bullets, so the crossbow is mainly useful against distant targets that are stationary. It's hard to take down an enemy with the crossbow who's seen you and is dodging around -- try the pistol or .357 Magnum instead. Also note that bolts are slowly pulled down by gravity, so the farther away a target is, the higher above it you must aim in order to hit it.
