Half-Life 2 Hints
Lighthouse Door Strategy
of 15: As soon as you park the jeep and leave the garage, run for the lighthouse.
of 15: Go in through its door, then block the doorway with the two large wooden crates that are nearby so that no Combine soldiers can come into the lighthouse.
of 15: You should leave the door open, and put the crates one on top of the other across the doorway.
of 15: However, leave a small gap at the right end of the top crate so that you can see any soldiers who are standing just outside the doorway.
of 15: You don't want them seeing you, so make the gap narrow. If you do it right, you'll be able to stand where you can shoot the soldiers with the pistol, .357, or crossbow without them being able to shoot back.
of 15: If you're not careful, a soldier will see you and open fire, possibly destroying one or both of your crates. Also, it's easy for you to accidentally hit your top crate when shooting at a soldier.
of 15: Due to this, it's best to go downstairs to the bottom floor and bring up one or two of the large crates down there to have handy for replacements.
of 15: One of the main problems with this strategy is getting the soldiers to stand right where you can shoot them instead of staying somewhere nearby but out of range.
of 15: When you know soldiers are out there but you can't see them, try running downstairs to the bottom floor and then returning, or go up the stairs to the first window you come to. Either one of those will sometimes get soldiers to move to where you can shoot them.
of 15: Also, you could try going over to the left side of the crates and using the gravity gun to pull the upper crate back from the doorway briefly before replacing it. (This move can also be used to get the resistance guy in the lighthouse with you to help you shoot the soldiers, but be careful that your bottom crate doesn't get shot to pieces.)
of 15: Otherwise, you'll just have to be patient and wait for the soldiers to wander into range.
of 15: When the fourth dropship comes, don't stand next to the crates, but stay off to the left of them to make sure the dropship doesn't see you and shoot out any of your crates.
of 15: Or if you stand over on their right side, you may be able to shoot soldiers through your crate gap as they disembark, but this is very hard to do.
of 15: In any case, keep shooting soldiers through your crate gap until they're all dead.
of 15: The gunship will probably show up before you finish killing the soldiers, but don't worry -- it can't see you or shoot you down near your crate barricade.
