Half-Life 2 Hints

How am I supposed to be able to move on without touching the sand?

  • 1 of 8: Look around for things other than sand to tread on.
  • 2 of 8: There are several large rocks imbedded in the ground, so stay on them.
  • 3 of 8: Hop from rock to rock to avoid touching the sand.
  • 4 of 8: There are some tricky jumps ahead, and not all of them are to rocks. Sometimes you have to use wooden pallets or other items instead.
  • 5 of 8: You can use your gravity gun to reposition pallets and other moveable items to make jumps easier and to get closer to supplies that are too far out on the sand for the gravity gun to pull in.
  • 6 of 8: In fact, if you have two good items (like doors or large sheets of metal), you can make a "moving pathway" with them. Jump to one item, move the other one to a nearby spot in front of you, jump to it, move the item you were on to a nearby spot in front of you, and so on. This is mainly useful when there aren't a bunch of large close-together rocks leading to where you want to go.
  • 7 of 8: Note that if you touch sand for just an instant before jumping onto a rock or junk item, you'll hear a brief rumbling sound, but no antlions will appear.
  • 8 of 8: If any do attack and you don't want to restore a save and try again, your first priority is to get onto something other than sand. *Then* shoot down the antlions who are attacking. If you stay on the sand, more will appear as soon as you kill the first ones.
