Barnacle

These creatures are very familiar to anyone who's played the original Half-Life game. They can't move at all, but instead affix themselves (somehow) to ceilings and overhangs in various places and let their long, sticky tongues hang down to the floor, waiting for something tasty to stumble into them.
You can almost always avoid barnacles once you see them. If one is in a narrow passage that you have to go down, you can push a large object, such as a crate or barrel, into the barnacle's tongue and then run under it as it tries to eat the object. If you want to kill a barnacle without using any ammo, let it grab onto you and then start swinging your crowbar when you get near its main body. (Don't do this if the drop from the barnacle's mouth is long enough to cause you falling damage.)
