Half-Life 2 Hints
Sentry Gun (Floor Turret)
Health: indestructible
Attack Damage: 3 per bullet
First Seen: Nova Prospekt, Section 1
These little automated guns detect movement in front of them within a 90-degree angle and swivel to fire at any enemy they detect. They can't be destroyed, but they can be temporarily deactivated by simply knocking them over. When this happens, they emit a short burst of fire and then go silent until they're set upright again.
You can use the gravity gun to easily throw these things around, and you can even pick them up afterwards and set them back up on their legs to reactivate them (though it's usually hard to get them so they won't fall over the moment you let go of them). It's much easier to crouch-walk up behind them and then gently push against them so that they turn in place, or just pick them up and set them down again in a new position without knocking them over to begin with.
TIP: When you have to approach one of these things straight-on, pick up and carry a large non-explosive object with you (barrel, large piece of sheet metal, etc.) as you advance so you won't get hit by the bullets. Alternatively, you can knock them over from a distance with explosives (grenades, rockets, thrown explosive barrels, etc.) or pulse rifle energy orbs.
