Half-Life 2 Hints

Moving Back Up Strategy

  • 1 of 12: When you're at the railing you need to jump over in order to land in the shower area, bring out your gravity gun and look around for possibilities.
  • 2 of 12: You'll see three large wooden crates nearby and to the right that you can pull over and use. (Or if you saved at least two large crates from the previous room, that'll work, too.)
  • 3 of 12: The best way to stack crates is to go to the left end of the railing (as you face it) and drop one large crate onto the floor below so that one of the crate's short sides is next to the ledge. (It's sticking out lengthwise, in other words.)
  • 4 of 12: Once that's in place, drop a second crate directly on top of it, facing the same way.
  • 5 of 12: TIP: As soon as your crate stack is in place, quicksave your game so that you can just quickrestore and try again if you fall.
  • 6 of 12: Carefully hop onto the railing and then crouch-drop lightly onto the top crate.
  • 7 of 12: Turn around and practice hopping from that crate back over the railing. You should be able to do this easily.
  • 8 of 12: You want the antlion guard to see you while you're still on top of your crate stack. This is why it's best to make your stack as far away from the door he comes through as possible (so that his view of you isn't obstructed by a nearby wall) and why you need your crates sticking out lengthwise.
  • 9 of 12: If you did it just as I said to, you should easily be able to get the antlion guard's attention by carefully crouch-walking out to the far end of the top crate.
  • 10 of 12: When you hear him tromping your way, turn around and quickly hop over the railing and squeeze back up against the wall. (He can still head-butt you if you're close to the railing.)
  • 11 of 12: Now just relax and fill him full of lead (or crossbow bolts, or whatever).
  • 12 of 12: Once he's dead, hop over the rail and head for the shower exit.
