Half-Life 2 Hints
Fragmentation Grenade

These are fancy versions of the regular old hand grenades you probably remember from Half-Life. These grenades can be lobbed hard with the Primary Fire key or tossed lightly with the Secondary Fire key. (Note that how hard they're thrown does *not* depend on how long you hold them before releasing.) Grenades are most useful for hitting enemies that are behind cover or around a corner, since your regular weapons won't be able to target them without you putting yourself in danger.
NOTE: Enemy grenades can be knocked away with weapons fire or picked up and thrown back (by hand or with the gravity gun). Such maneuvers are very dangerous since you don't have much time before the grenade goes off, so it's usually best to just run for cover.
