Half-Life 2 Hints

How can I cross this room without touching the water?

  • 1 of 14: You'll have to find ways to use the pipes, catwalks, and other features of the room to get over to the other side.
  • 2 of 14: To start with, figure out how to get from the starting walkway over to the middle of the room.
  • 3 of 14: There's a ladder, but it leads down into the zappy water. You don't want to go that way.
  • 4 of 14: The easiest way across is to jump over the railing near the door you came in and land on the big brown pipe next to it.
  • 5 of 14: From there, you've got a straight run-and-jump shot at the room's central platform.
  • 6 of 14: WARNING: There's a barnacle tongue hanging down directly between you and the platform you're trying to jump to. Be sure to shoot the barnacle to death before jumping if he's not busy munching on an unfortunate headcrab.
  • 7 of 14: Exploring around the central area, you'll find that there's a major chunk of walkway gone between the central area and the elevated walkway at the far end of the room that you need to get to.
  • 8 of 14: So build yourself some sort of bridge across the watery gap using local items.
  • 9 of 14: There are several buoyant blue barrels lying around -- try those.
  • 10 of 14: Using the gravity gun, you can work this routine just like you did when you were using junk to safely cross the antlion-infested sand in Chapter 8.
  • 11 of 14: Drop two or three blue barrels next to your side of the gap, then carefully hop over to the farthest one.
  • 12 of 14: Turn around and pick up a barrel from behind you, drop it in front of you, and hop over to it. Repeat until you've made it to the stairs on the other side.
  • 13 of 14: ALTERNATIVE: There are two large wooden crates and two wooden pallets floating around that you can use either with or without the blue barrels to form a pretty solid bridge across the gap so that you don't have to do a bunch of delicate balancing and barrel-moving on the go.
  • 14 of 14: TIP: Once you're on the other side, look back and across to where two large white pipes go into the wall near a brown pipe. There's a box of .357 Magnum ammo that you can nab with the gravity gun.
