Half-Life 2 Hints
How can I deal with these "hopper" mines?
1 of 6: To prevent them from hopping at you and blowing up, you'll need to deal with them before you get too close to them.
2 of 6: One way is to suck them in with the gravity gun and then throw them somewhere so they'll blow up without harming you.
3 of 6: TIP: In areas with other enemies, throw hoppers at them like you would explosive barrels.
4 of 6: Another way is to pull hoppers up with the gravity gun and then gently set them back down again. That way they'll be friendly to you and your forces because you were the one to set them.
5 of 6: The hoppers have a color code. If their light is green, that means they sense no enemies nearby. If it's yellow, they're on alert, but are too far away from the detected enemy to do anything. If it's red, an enemy is too close and they're ready to hop up and explode. (Also, their light is blue if they're active but unset, like when you're holding them.)
6 of 6: Remember that you're the only one with a gravity gun, so help your squad out by carefully watching for hoppers and taking care of all of them yourself as you move along.
