Half-Life 2 Hints

Soldier and Strider Combat Tips

  • 1 of 13: As soon as you drop down, grab the nearest empty transport capsule with the gravity gun and hold it in front of you as you move forward.
  • 2 of 13: It'll provide cover for you as you approach the first group of soldiers in the corridor.
  • 3 of 13: When you get close enough to them, throw the capsule at them and then quickly zap any survivors.
  • 4 of 13: Then immediately move forward and grab onto another capsule to hold in front of you as you proceed.
  • 5 of 13: When you reach the spot where several capsules are arrayed on either side of the path that leads forward, stand and wait there while the soldiers ahead run up to you.
  • 6 of 13: Throw your capsule forward to kill the soldiers (hopefully all of them), then turn left and run down the short side path.
  • 7 of 13: Quickly position yourself so that there are a couple of huge black cables between you and the strider.
  • 8 of 13: Since the strider can walk around within a limited area, you may have to move to keep the huge cables between you and it as you quickly finish off any surviving soldiers.
  • 9 of 13: After the soldiers are all dead, start pulling energy orbs from the conduit nearest you and throwing them at the strider.
  • 10 of 13: It doesn't matter where you hit the strider. You can even damage it by hitting one of its lower leg segments (which will probably be the easiest thing to do).
  • 11 of 13: ALTERNATIVE: As soon as you toss the capsule you're carrying at the soldiers near the strider, crouch down behind the first capsule to the right of the pathway. The strider can't shoot you there, and you can grab energy orbs from the conduit on the left and come out of cover just long enough to hit the strider with them when it's not firing at you.
  • 12 of 13: Bomb the strider with energy orbs while staying out of its line of fire until it goes down.
  • 13 of 13: NOTE: You can have fun tossing around the strider's remains after it's dead. In fact, you can clean up the area by throwing all the strider pieces into a nearby energy conduit or force field generator to disintegrate them. (Another way is to grab energy orbs and fire them into the strider parts.)
