Half-Life 2 Hints

How can I get to the top of the reactor?

  • 1 of 17: To start on your long journey to the top, look to the back right corner of the platform you're on. (Right as you're facing Breen, that is.)
  • 2 of 17: The large metal gadget in that corner will soon rise, opening up a narrow walkway that you can use.
  • 3 of 17: TIP: The walkway opens up right after Breen says he'll name a particle after you so you won't be completely forgotten.
  • 4 of 17: Go along the narrow walkway until it widens, then stop near a force field on the right and wait for a few soldiers to come through it.
  • 5 of 17: After they're zapped, go up the large ramp and look to the left to see three power generators in a row, right in your path.
  • 6 of 17: A short way past the third generator, be *sure* to save your game before riding a big up-and-down gadget up to the next floor level.
  • 7 of 17: As you move forward, watch for more soldiers to run out through the nearby force field.
  • 8 of 17: Move on past a huge up-and-down gadget that you can't get on yet to get to a small stick-out walkway.
  • 9 of 17: Stand at the end of that walkway and wait for a moving platform to stop right in front of you.
  • 10 of 17: Jump onto the platform and ride it along.
  • 11 of 17: As soon as it goes up, jump off onto the translucent walkway ahead and use the Combine recharger.
  • 12 of 17: Look to the right and grab-kill the soldiers who are shooting at you from a lower area, then use the recharger again.
  • 13 of 17: Just to the left of the recharger is a small up-and-down machine that you can ride up to a higher walkway.
  • 14 of 17: As soon as you get up there, run forward and kill the soldiers who appear ahead of you, then use the up-and-down thing you just rode to get back down to the recharger.
  • 15 of 17: As soon as you're back to 100 health and 200 armor, go back up and run along the walkway.
  • 16 of 17: Head left at the force field to find one last big up-and-down machine that you need to ride.
  • 17 of 17: It'll take you to the top of the reactor -- a good spot to do a quicksave!
