Half-Life 2 Hints
Sentry Gun Strategy
1 of 11: First, go back to the previous area and pick up one of the sentry guns that you knocked over on the upper walkway.
2 of 11: If you don't know how to use the gravity gun to get it to stand upright again, see the General Strategies.
3 of 11: Once it's upright, position it so that it'll shoot the antlion guard to death for you.
4 of 11: You know he'd knock it over if it were down to where he could reach it, so put it somewhere he can't reach it but it can shoot him.
5 of 11: The first large right-hand opening into the shower room that you pass is covered with a wire mesh fence, but sentry guns can shoot through that kind of fencing.
6 of 11: The antlion guard doesn't appear at first, but when he does, he appears in the large "niche" area that you can see off to the far right through the fencing (just to the right of the rubble-blocked double doors).
7 of 11: So set the sentry gun up to face that niche area (it's best to put it at the far left end of the fencing so it has a better attack angle), then go drop down to the shower room's floor to get the antlion guard to show up.
8 of 11: If you placed the sentry gun correctly, and don't let the antlion guard see you when you drop down, he won't come after you, and the sentry gun will eventually kill him.
9 of 11: Or better yet, *don't* drop down to the floor! Instead, jump up onto the railing and move around on it until you hear the sentry gun start firing.
10 of 11: This works because the antlion guard appears if you're on the railing near its left end, making a drop to the floor unnecessary.
11 of 11: This way is better because you can adjust the sentry gun if it's not in a good spot, plus you can knock it over before you enter the shower area so it won't be shooting at you while you're down there.
