Section 2: Meet the Gravity Gun (d1_eli_02)

  • 1 of 11: After you exit to the scrapyard, Alyx will get the gravity gun out of its case and hold it out to you. Move up against it to take it.
  • 2 of 11: See the general Zero Point Energy Field Manipulator (Gravity Gun) info for more details on how it works and what all it can be used for.
  • 3 of 11: After you take the gun, Alyx will put you through a series of simple exercises in using it.
  • 4 of 11: Then it's on to an area where you play with a giant robotic dog who throws things to you.
  • 5 of 11: Move if necessary so that you can catch the items just before they hit you by using the gravity gun's Secondary Fire mode.
  • 6 of 11: After doing a few crate catches, Dog will get out his ball (a rollermine that can no longer deliver a charge) and you can throw that back and forth for awhile. Some fun, huh?
  • 7 of 11: Unfortunately, there's a traitor in the resistance's midst (try and guess who), and the Combine will soon attack with parasite rockets, scanners, and hunter-choppers. Be sure to follow Alyx out quickly before the chopper spots you.
  • 8 of 11: TIP: When you leave, use the gravity gun to take Dog's "ball" with you. If you keep it all the way to Ravenholm, you can use it there to distract and/or kill zombies and headcrabs. You may find that keeping the ball with you all that time is more trouble than it's worth, but it can be very useful in a few particular spots.
  • 9 of 11: Follow Alyx until some falling rubble comes between you, then follow Dog to the Ravenholm tunnel and go under the big door when he lifts it up for you.
  • 10 of 11: You'll eventually come to a shaft with a very long ladder that goes up one side.
  • 11 of 11: Move along the dark passage past the top of the ladder to make it to the start of Chapter 6: "We Don't Go to Ravenholm...".
