Half-Life 2 Hints
Combat Tips
1 of 16: Move slowly forward along the wide outdoor walkway until you get to where you can see two soldiers on catwalks over on the right.
2 of 16: Quickly retreat to where you can't see the catwalks and get out the crossbow.
3 of 16: Zoom in on the doorway that's at the end of the walkway directly ahead of you. One of the soldiers should come through that doorway in a few seconds.
4 of 16: The other soldier will probably stay on the catwalks and throw grenades at you, so have the gravity gun ready to return one of his grenades to him. (Or just duck in and out of cover and shoot him with the pistol or .357 Magnum.)
5 of 16: As you go through the doorway into the junk-filled room beyond, watch for two Combine soldiers to come out from behind the large green cabinets that are on the other side of the room's fencing.
6 of 16: The best way to take these two down is to look up and left to find an explosive barrel on a weak platform. As soon as the soldiers run into view, quickly blow the barrel up with the SMG to drop some heavy beams and crush the soldiers.
7 of 16: ARMOR TIP: The two supply crates in this room will have armor batteries in them if your armor is very low when you break them open, so save them for after you finish this long combat series. (The same goes for the supply crates on this room's upper floor, which you can get to a little later.)
8 of 16: If you stand in the doorway you entered the junky room through and look up, you'll be able to see a doorway up in the far right corner. You can either ignore it for now or toss some frag grenades through it to stir up a few soldiers.
9 of 16: Make your way through the junk and over to the doorway in the back of the room that leads out onto the catwalks that you saw the first two soldiers on.
10 of 16: Ready the crossbow or .357 Magnum and move along the catwalk slowly until you can see and shoot a soldier who's way up high on a lookout tower ahead.
11 of 16: Then climb the ladder and walk along the upper catwalk until you come to the doorway that reenters the building.
12 of 16: If you didn't toss frag grenades through the upper junk room doorway and finish off the soldiers up there earlier, they'll come out onto the upper catwalk to attack you now.
13 of 16: You can stand near the doorway and hit soldiers as they appear with double-barrel shotgun blasts, or you can carefully drop a frag grenade or two near the doorway and then retreat.
14 of 16: Once they're all dead, you're almost done. Find the side room with stairs that lead up.
15 of 16: There are two more soldiers in the room past the doorway at the top of these stairs, so toss a couple of frag grenades through the doorway before you approach it.
16 of 16: Use the shotgun or pulse rifle to deal with any survivors, and you'll finally be done fighting (for now).
