Half-Life 2 Hints
How can I approach and clear out those emplacements?
1 of 8: Not by running along the beach. You'll get shot down quickly with no way of getting up the cliffs to the emplacements.
2 of 8: Look around near the emplacement you just took over for anything promising.
3 of 8: How about that big open doorway in the concrete wall next to the bright lantern?
4 of 8: Move just far enough into the concrete tunnel area to get some manhacks to appear, then quickly retreat while the antlions destroy them.
5 of 8: As you move ahead, you can use cover and bugbait exclusively to finish off the soldiers in the tunnels, or you can watch for clusters of explosive barrels that you can shoot from a safe distance to blow a few of them up.
6 of 8: TIP: After you clear out the tunnels, search them for supplies, including in the small side room that you can only enter by crouch-walking through a square wall hole.
7 of 8: When you exit the tunnels at the other end, crouch-walk up to the low concrete wall that's just ahead and throw bugbait over it to get the antlions started on the two nearby emplacements.
8 of 8: Wait there until the sounds of fighting stop, then come out cautiously to see if both emplacements have been cleared out. (If not, take cover and toss bugbait toward the remaining soldiers.)
