Small Emplacement Tips
1 of 6: When you go outside, several Combine soldiers will come running from a dropship landing pad over to the right and will try to make it to the small emplacement and use it against you and the antlions.
2 of 6: One thing you could do is run for the small emplacement yourself and stand inside it, shooting any soldiers who manage to make it there past your antlions.
3 of 6: However, a safer (though slower) strategy is to return to the big emplacement and take cover there.
4 of 6: This works best if you first toss some bugbait out onto the uneven grassy area to send your antlions out there, then run out just far enough to get the soldiers to appear.
5 of 6: You can either use the nearest emplacement gun to give your antlions some help in shooting down the soldiers, or you can just hide at the other end of the emplacement while the antlions do all the work (which can take quite awhile).
6 of 6: After the dropship leaves and the antlions come scuttling back to you, you'll know the area is (probably) clear of soldiers.
