Combat Tips

  • 1 of 12: As you came in through the pipe, you could have looked up through "ceiling" gratings at two points to see soldiers on the towers. It's possible to snipe them with the crossbow and/or .357 before they start shooting down at you, but it's difficult and dangerous, so the rest of these hints will assume you skipped that.
  • 2 of 12: From inside the pool, throw some bugbait out toward one of the towers.
  • 3 of 12: However, that's usually not enough. The antlions will get cut down by the crossfire too fast to be able to get to the towers.
  • 4 of 12: So ready the crossbow and climb partway up the pool's ladder.
  • 5 of 12: When you can see a gunner on one of the towers, take him down with a crossbow bolt.
  • 6 of 12: Stay right where you are and keep watching that gun. If another soldier tries to take it over, crossbow him, too.
  • 7 of 12: Climb the rest of the way up the ladder so you can see the other mounted gun on that same tower.
  • 8 of 12: If the gunner sees you and starts firing, quickly strafe left for cover, then take him down with any long-range weapon when he's busy shooting antlions. (But don't use the RPG -- you'll need its rockets later.)
  • 9 of 12: Even with that tower clear, the antlions may not be able to approach the other nearby tower.
  • 10 of 12: Move forward to where you can toss bugbait onto that tower's catwalk over a brick wall that'll provide you cover.
  • 11 of 12: If your aim is good, the bugbait will immobilize the gunners on the tower long enough for the antlions to move in and finish them off.
  • 12 of 12: Now you can run over to the base of the middle tower and toss some bugbait over toward the third and final tower to get the antlions to kill off its soldiers.
