Step-by-Step Strategy
1 of 22: Before you approach the stairs that lead from the grassy area to the main prison yard, toss some bugbait up to the little covered shelter that's near the top of the stairs to get your antlions up there.
2 of 22: Then run up the stairs and past the shelter, leaving your antlions to deal with the soldiers who magically appear there.
3 of 22: Run all the way to the back, where the street turns left.
4 of 22: At that corner will be a small guardhouse with lots of breakable windows and two soldiers inside.
5 of 22: Kill off those soldiers by shooting them through the first guardhouse window you come to, then take cover in the guardhouse.
6 of 22: Use the gravity gun to move the big desk out of the corner next to the armor recharger. That corner is a safe place to stand where the gunships can't shoot you through the door or windows.
7 of 22: Toss bugbait out the door or through a broken window to move the antlions away from the guardhouse, then rocket those gunships from the doorway when they pass close by. (Quicksave after every hit and quickrestore after every miss, as usual.)
8 of 22: When you've used up your starting rockets plus the spare rocket in the guardhouse, make a quick run back down the street the way you came.
9 of 22: You can pick up one spare rocket in an ammo stash along the right wall, and another one under the large covered shelter (the one you passed earlier on your way to the guardhouse).
10 of 22: Use the cover of the shelter to shoot your two new rockets into the gunships, then run back to the safety of the guardhouse and heal up if necessary.
11 of 22: As you face out of the doorway of this guardhouse, you can see an elevated guardhouse down the street.
12 of 22: Shoot out several of that guardhouse's windows and then either shoot the soldiers inside it with the pistol or toss some bugbait that way to get your antlions over there.
13 of 22: When you're ready, head out of your guardhouse and turn left at the next corner.
14 of 22: Duck into the large turned-on-its-side dumpster that has health kits in it when you get to it.
15 of 22: Once you use the gravity gun to knock away the nearby explosive barrel, the dumpster will make good cover from gunship fire. Stand in its left corner (left as you face outward) for maximum coverage.
16 of 22: There are two soldiers up on an elevated catwalk that's directly across from (behind) the dumpster.
17 of 22: Peek out long enough to toss some bugbait at those soldiers, then hide while your antlions kill them for you.
18 of 22: Okay, now it's finally time to run for the rocket crate! Leave the dumpster (heading right) and go for the nearby stairs.
19 of 22: As soon as you fill up on rockets, find the little corner niche nearby and hide in it until a gunship flies into range.
20 of 22: WARNING: There's nowhere in the niche that you can stand so that the gunships can't ever shoot you. You'll have to maneuver left and right within that small area to avoid gunship fire. (Also, toss bugbait every now and then to keep the antlions out of your way.)
21 of 22: As an alternative, you could run straight back to the dumpster (jumping over a railing instead of going for the stairs) as soon as you use the rocket crate. The dumpster is a lousy place to try to rocket gunships from, so make the run from there back to the guardhouse with the rechargers. Use up your rockets, then repeat the two-stage run to the rocket crate and back. You can still get badly shot up, but it may work better for you than the above-mentioned niche.
22 of 22: Keep rocketing those gunships and resupplying at the crate until they both go down in flames. Victory at last!
