Half-Life 2 Hints

How can I get past the fire barrier that the cops set across my path?

  • 1 of 10: It's not very much fire -- you can probably just brave it.
  • 2 of 10: If you plow right through the fire, it'll only hurt you for a few points. You can avoid even that by heading carefully around the fire on its right side.
  • 3 of 10: The catch here is that someone out of sight up ahead keeps rolling explosive barrels down the incline and into the flames.
  • 4 of 10: You don't want any of those going off right as you're heading through the flames.
  • 5 of 10: Use the gauss gun to shoot the explosive barrels as they roll down toward the flames.
  • 6 of 10: There are a lot of barrels, but they're not infinite -- you can stop the airboat a ways back from the flames and shoot barrels with the gauss gun until they stop appearing.
  • 7 of 10: Go through the flames (or to the right of them), then stop and shoot the next round of barrels (and the cop who appears up on the ledge).
  • 8 of 10: ALTERNATIVE: Instead of waiting and shooting all those barrels, you could head up the left side of the incline, only shooting the cop and any barrels that appear in front of you. This is more dangerous, though, since a barrel may be too close to you when you shoot it, causing you lots of damage.
  • 9 of 10: You're safe from the barrels as soon as you make the U-turn at the top of the incline and start down the other side. (But do watch out for a barnacle and several cops as you exit the area.)
  • 10 of 10: SHORTCUT: If you turn the corner that leads into this area slowly enough and then stop, you can shoot the cop who sets the fire before he can do so, thereby preventing the fire barrier from ever forming. (You'll still have to shoot several explosive barrels, though.)
