Half-Life 2 Hints
Preparation Tips
of 8: Before you go outside and start the whole mess, use the gravity gun to throw all the spare health items and pulse rifles you can find outside through the doorway.
of 8: You might also want to throw out large items that you can use for crushing soldiers who get too close. (It's really easy to run out of ammo out there.)
of 8: It's a very good idea to make a regular save (not just a quicksave) right before you exit to the square. That way, you can quicksave every now and then during the combat if things seem to be going well, and you can also restart the whole thing if you later decide to.
of 8: There are two cops in the square to start with, plus a third one who appears soon afterward.
of 8: As soon as you kill off the two starting cops (or maybe just the first one), get out the gravity gun and run around setting all the unset hoppers in the area.
of 8: It's a good idea to place hoppers near the two big force fields that you know soldiers are going to be coming through.
of 8: Also, you could place one or two of them near Alyx's control booth in case some soldiers get that close.
of 8: After setting the hoppers, go bust open all the supply crates that are next to the big fountain to see what all kinds of ammo you can get from them.
