Half-Life 2 Hints
How can I avoid getting shot up in the tunnel?
of 8: The strider breaks through and drops down near the rubble-clogged end of the tunnel, but not until you've moved a ways toward the tunnel's open end.
of 8: When you first enter the tunnel, stay near the doorway you came out of and shoot the soldier who appears down near the unblocked end. (The crossbow and .357 are handiest for this.)
of 8: Then go over to the left side of the tunnel (left as you face the unblocked end) and walk calmly past the first green dumpster.
of 8: As soon as you're past it, start sprinting.
of 8: You should be able to make it around the left corner at the open end of the tunnel before the strider can shoot you. If not, restore a save and try again.
of 8: If you still have a squad member with you from the strider courtyard area and want to keep him alive, send him down to the other end of the tunnel after killing the soldier who's down there and before making your run for the exit. Your squad member may survive and help you in the combats ahead.
of 8: If you stockpiled some RPGs in the previous chapter section, you can easily destroy this strider right after it appears.
of 8: NOTE: Even if you didn't stockpile the RPGs, you may still be able to use that method to get the strider stuck halfway down the tunnel so that it's safe to run past it. It'll get going again eventually, but you should easily make it to safety first.
