Half-Life 2 Hints
What's the best way to take the striders down?
1 of 7: The area with the rocket crate has totally lousy cover. The striders and several soldiers in nearby buildings can easily target you up there, as can several passing gunships.
2 of 7: However, the cover is great back at the third safe room, and there are rechargers next to it that you can heal up at when necessary.
3 of 7: So what you'll want to do is first use up all the rockets you've got shooting striders from near the safe room, and only then make a run up the stairs.
4 of 7: When you get near the top of the stairs, quicksave before you run for the rocket crate so that you can quickrestore and try again if a strider shoots you up badly before you make it back downstairs.
5 of 7: Return to the area near the safe room and put your three new rockets into striders.
6 of 7: NOTES: Resistance members will keep spawning and joining your squad every now and then. Feel free to send them up the stairs ahead of you as distractions for the striders when you're going up for rockets. But don't depend on getting rockets from dead RPG-toting squad members, since the game makes their RPGs disappear as soon as they die. (Just to make sure you need the rocket crate, I suppose.)
7 of 7: Keep this up until both striders are down, then heal up at the rechargers.
