Lift Barricade Strategy
1 of 4: Before you get on the lift, use the gravity gun to grab up all the vid consoles and other moveable junk and pile it carefully on the lift.
2 of 4: If you pile the junk in a partial circle on the lift and then back into the circle while carrying one final piece of junk in front of you, you can crouch in the middle as the lift goes up and have quite a bit of cover from the soldiers.
3 of 4: If you hold on to your final piece of junk the whole trip up, you can move it around to help block fire from soldiers who appear on higher platforms.
4 of 4: TIP: You can get even more junk to toss on the lift if you use a computer console to help you jump back up into the hallway you entered this area through. It'll mean returning to the previous chapter section briefly, but that won't hurt anything.
