The Hardy Boys: The Hidden Theft Hints
How did the perpetrator find out the combination to the safe?
of 21: You're going to need to do a little research into that combination first, and into who devised it, and if they wrote it down.
of 21: Speak with the owner of the safe. That's Samuel Spencer, and he's outside.
of 21: Ask him about the combination to the safe, and ask him about his morning routine.
of 21: He will tell you a fair bit of useful information. He changes the combination weekly, and writes each new combination down. Each new combination, on a sheet of paper, is left on his desk for a short while until he has memorized it, then it is shredded in the document shredder.
of 21: Another piece of information he will give is that he opens his window every morning to let a breeze into the room.
of 21: The first place you might think to look is inside the document shredder, to see whether last week's code is still there.
of 21: If you open the shredder and look inside you will see that the piece of paper that was shredded is entirely blank. Curious.
of 21: Perhaps we should try to recreate the routine, and see if anything strikes us on the way.
of 21: Let's leave a piece of paper on the desk.
of 21: You will find a sheet of paper outside the mansion just to the left of the broken window, fixed to the wall.
of 21: Grab it, take it inside the mansion, and place it on Samuel's desk in the office.
of 21: Now, let's simulate that breeze.
of 21: How does a breeze get into a house, if not through a window?
of 21: Another opening, perhaps?
of 21: Try a door.
of 21: You need to find a way to keep the office door propped open. Thankfully, there's a tool designed for that very job just outside the door.
of 21: Grab the doorstop and use it with the door.
of 21: Now let's get a breeze from outside into the room.
of 21: Open the mansion's front door.
of 21: This will trigger a cut-scene which will reveal the truth of how the combination may have found its way into the hands of a third party.
of 21: The sheet of paper we left on the desk will blow right out of the open window to the grounds!
